About EU VAT

VAT (value-added tax) is a consumption tax built into the price of most goods and services. Every EU country sets its own standard rate — from 17% in Luxembourg to 27% in Hungary — plus reduced rates for specific categories. This tool uses each country’s 2026 standard rate.

To add VAT, multiply the net amount by the rate. To extract VAT from a gross price, divide by (1 + rate) to get the net, and the remainder is the VAT. When you sell across EU borders to consumers, the rate that applies can be the customer’s country rate rather than yours — see the OSS threshold checker.

Rates change and reduced rates vary by product — treat this as indicative and confirm the exact rate with the national tax authority.

  • Below the €10,000 EU-wide distance-selling threshold you charge your own country’s rate; above it you charge the customer’s country rate and file via OSS. Use the OSS threshold checker to see which side of the line you’re on.
